Get your Grill ready in the Spring for Grilling Season.
- Make sure you have turned the gas off. Remove the grill grid and stone or briquettes.
- First, clean the burners and venturi tubes. The tubes make good homes for spiders and insects during the off-season. A small blockage in the tubs can become a fire hazard. Remove the entire burner/tube
assembly and clean with soapy water. Clean the holes with a wire brush or toothpick. Next you want to check the burners. Look for rust or food acids which
can cause the burner to corrode. Replace if necessary the burners if necessary.
- It is important to check the gas supply line. Hoses can develop leaks and cooking residue accumulates on them over time. Also, mice and squirrels
may chew on them. Turn the gas on.
Rub a light coat of water on the hose and look for bubbles. Replace
the hose if necessary.
- Clean the interior and exterior of the grill. Clean the inside of the grill lid and any excess grease that has accumulated. Remember to clean your grease trap regularly throughout the grilling season. You want to also clean the grid and the stone or briquettes removed earlier from the grill.
- Now you are ready to buy steaks and have a great grilling season!
Winterizing your Grill
Because most people continue to buy steak and grill during the winter, it is not necessary to "winterize" your grill. You do want to make sure that you thoroughly clean the inside of your grill after each use during the winter months, especially since you are may not be grilling on a regular basis as you would during warmer months. It is important to dry to avoid any possible rust build up. A tip to avoid rust is to apply a thin coat of shortening to the entire surface of grids and burners with a paper towel. Remember it is best to store your grill in a covered area, garage, or storage
building when not in use. A heavy-duty vinyl grill cover is a must, especially if your grill has electrical parts. These covers can be found at most outdoor supply stores.
